What happened in May 2010?

ODDyssey Half Marathon

Swimming 16 miles and running 42 miles seemed to be an off month for me, but May 2010 was a great workout month for me.

I set a personal best at the Broad Street Run at 1:10:27 which placed me in the top 3 percent of all finishers. I finished 3rd in my age group at the University City 5k run on Drexel campus. I looked pretty in pink running the ODDyssey Half Marathon, and finished well at the Got the Nerve Triathlon in Mt Gretna, PA. The bike portion of the triathlon was tough for me, but that was the best part.

In the pool, my freestyle has gradually improved. Within the past few months, my 100 yard free pace has dropped by about 10 seconds. Now I can comfortably clock in at 1:40. My fast 100 yard freestyle is between 1:25 and 1:30

I went to the gym exactly 3 times in May for chest and triceps. I'd lose all my muscles and strength very soon.

Broad Street Run 2009

The Broad Street Run is getting bigger every year, and I am starting to like it. The coral start is new this year, and it is great for me to stay ahead of 20,000 slower runners / walkers.

My time is two minutes slower this year, but I am thrilled to have gone under 80 minutes.

I am done with the M30-34 age group for this race, so here are my results from the past 5 years:

2009: 1:16:09; 371st out of 1943 men in my age group
2008: 1:14:13; 238th out of 1504 men in my age group
2007: 1:16:23; 277th out of 1329 men in my age group
2006: did not run
2005: 1:30:08; 708th out of 1108 men in my age group

Broad Street Run 2007

Broad Street Run 2007

A solid run continued my love/hate relationship with the Broad Street Run. I placed 2,060 out of 15,882 finishers with a clock time of 1:16:52 and a chip time of 1:16:52 this year. This was definitely an improvement over my 2005 time when I placed 6,260 out of 12,050 finishers with a clock time of 1:34:55 and chip time of 1:30:08.

I love watching enthusiastic runnings during the race. I hate that many of the Broad Street runners don't line up according to their realistic pace. I love running down on Broad Street looking at great buildings. I hate that a many great buildings on Broad Street are abandoned and in disrepair. I love running on Broad Street. I hate that the finish area is about a mile away from the nearest Broad Street subway station.
