Live 8

The Live 8 concert this weekend will be within walking distance from my apartment building. I'd love to attend, but I will be in Rehoboth for a soccer tournament. This will be my second or third appearance at my favorite regional gay soccer tournament. I'm looking forward to kicking some balls and spending some time at the beach.

PGN Death Watch, Part 2

Circulation for newspapers is like ratings for television. Both are used to lure advertisers. While publishers have known to manipulate circulations, the data are often revealing.

City life

I've moved eight times the past eight years, but perhaps none was as significant as the latest.
For the first time, I moved with someone. While relocating represents a new start, moving with someone is like saying, "Yes, I love you. I can put up with your shit, and I want to continue my life with you!"
I finally moved into Center City. I had talked about this the past eight years. I've made a pro/con analysis on living an urban life. I joined a gym 20 footsteps away from my building. I started taking the train to work last week. I sold my car yesterday.
This is going to be an excellent adventure!

Bachelor Auction

My soccer team is hosting a fundraiser which features live bachelor auctioning. Since I wanted to give the pool of bachelors an ethnic flavor, I am going to moonlight as a bachelor. All I need to do is to show up at the event and maybe going on a "date" with the highest bidder (with a chaperone if I needed one). A drag queen going to host the live auction, and here are the mostly fictitious info I'm giving her. My goal is to work it (like rent is due tomorrow)!

Your Name: Anh

Occupation: Vaccine Scientist

Position: Defense

Hometown: Lancaster, PA

Three things you like: American politics; urban
legends; and scary rollercoaster rides

Your earliest Hollywood crush: Alyssa Milano from
"Who's the Boss?" and her TV father Tony Danza

Non-soccer hobbies: playing guitar; running (planning
to run 50 marathons in 50 states); and naked oil
wrestling

Karaoke song you are most likely to request:
"Like a Virgin"

Do we only care about missing white women?

"Now, the disappearance of Alabama high school student Natalee Holloway, 18, in Aruba is getting lots of airtime on the cable news networks and morning news shows. Those networks, which drive such stories, are being asked a tough question: Do they care only about missing white women?

Holloway, like "runaway bride" Jennifer Wilbanks, murder victims Laci Peterson and Lori Hacking, kidnap victim Elizabeth Smart and several other girls and women whose stories got significant airtime in recent years, is white."

I want my dominatrix bear

"This bear is perverse, dominatrix and hardcore. We had to ban it because of the children," Beat Seeberger-Quin, the project's art director, told Reuters.

APICS Basics of Supply Chain Management

While taking breaks from packing, I studied for the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). To be fully certified, I need to pass five exams.

I passed the first exam "Basics of Supply Chain Management" on Friday. I was tested on the following concepts:

  • Elements of the Supply Chain
  • Just-in-Time (JIT)
  • Total Quality Management (TQM)
  • Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP II)
  • Demand Planning
  • Capacity Management
Next exam: by end of July

Legs Up!

The move is eminent. We are freaking out! Each of us sent out mad email asking for help. At this point we probably would prostitute ourselves in exchange for moving our funiture to our new apartment. I'm getting some unexpected offers to help, which proves that either we know some nice people or that they want to turn us into prostitutes.

Ghetto Triathlon

It's been quite a week. "Deep Throat" made headlines. Justine Henin-Hardenne and Rafael Nadal kicked ass in Paris. The Phillies won six in a row and climbed up from last place. Jacob and I visited Bob and Dia on Friday and Lauren's dad on Saturday.

I ran with the Frontrunners on Saturday, and played soccer with the Falcons twice this week. Finished reading a book on urban legends. Studied for an Operations Management exam. Packed a handful of boxes. When everything was in order, it was time for my very own Ghetto Triathlon 2005:
  • Swim - about 10 laps (0.25 mile) in a pool while avoiding kids and floats.
  • Bike - 10-mile loop from Norristown to Valley Forge.
  • Run - only managed one mile around the Regatta Apartment Homes.
Without keeping a watch, I think it took me a little over an hour to complete my first Ghetto 3-sport event. Never stop tri-ing, baby!

Going the extra mile

Running a mile itself normally takes me 8 minutes, but running mile no. 27 would require about 20 minutes if I could still move!

Extra Mile Upsets Marathoners in Chicago
Fri Jun 3, 8:22 PM ET
Associated Press
CHICAGO - Any marathon is a grueling test of physical and mental endurance, but Chicago's Lakeshore Marathon was extra tough this year: The course was inadvertently set a mile too long.
More than 500 runners finished the Memorial Day race, running 27.2 miles instead of the standard 26.2.
