I swarm 6.2 mies in one workout! I never imagined I would be able to do it. The most I had done prior to last weekend was a 3 mile open water swim.
This time, it was at a 50 meters outdoor pool at the fancy Upper Main Line YMCA. It was a special workout organized by the Delaware Valley Masters Swimming.
For the first 50 100's, I kept a 2:10 pace freestyle. My pace was easy, and I had about 5 seconds in between repetitions. For the last 50 100's, I did 50 free / 50 breast at 2:20 interval with a extra minute rest for every 500. I used the minute rest to sip on my Gatorade and looked around.
I wasn't the slowest person at the workout, but I was by far the slowest swimmer among the six who completed the 100 x 100. Most of the swimmers there did the 50 x 100 option, finishing in about 90 minutes.
I felt fine afterward. I did look up in my blog that it was in April 2007 that I completed my first 100 freestyle swim, and it was in September 2007 that I was able to swim 2 x 100 freestyle back-to-back. It was also in late 2007 that I was able to reach 2000 yards in one 90 minute swim practice. I've come a long way from those days in Lane Six!
